The new Integrated Knowledge Park, DPI Campus in Chennai is bold and transparent in its planning and design. Singular and seemingly uniform the building is constantly changing according to its orientation. This strong identity is important because of the diverse almost chaotic urban fabric surrounding the site. The elliptical building conceptualized by Creative Group surrounding the courtyard creates a strong uniform architectural image that ties together the various functions such as the offices, auditorium, hotel into one coherent plan.
The design faced a challenge as the site is constraint with heritage structures, located right in the center of the site. The campus building designed engulfs the heritage structures, respecting its cultural significance, yet successfully retains its own characteristic individuality. The building defines a singular courtyard inside and outside and as one circumnavigates the structure a sequential series of new and heritage buildings, programs, spaces, and garden surround the primary structure.
