Proposed for the new -urban railway project, the design was intended to reflect the emphatic growth of Navi Mumbai as a satellite commercial hub to Mumbai. Designed for three upcoming suburbs, namely - Targhar, Bamandongri & Kharkopar, these large clear-span steel structures adopts different techniques of roofing system to achieve an organic yet dynamic form with maximum dispersal area for the commuters. Considering the climatic context of the region, efficient use of natural daylight & ventilation has been incorporated through the perforations in the each of the roofing system at strategic locations.
The design process commenced with thorough analysis of the three distinct sites, traffic requirements and site conditions. The structure is envisioned to be similar to the ecosystem of the ‘sea’; almost organic, emphasizing the direct use of materials, the exposure of their surfaces and the independence of all parts of the structure yet in a symbiotic relationship with one another; a form that emerges from the functional requirements, yet provide an integrated envelope for other uses.
